About Chef Pedro Pena Bastos

Born in Porto and passionate about music and photography, he quickly realized that his future lay in the kitchen. After stints at the iconic Cafeína in Porto, Belcanto and Feitoria in Lisbon, the Ledbury in London, and Geranium in Copenhagen, it was at the Grémio Literário that he had his first experience leading a kitchen. At 24, he was invited to head the restaurant at Herdade do Esporão, in the Alentejo, where his work began to catapult him into the spotlight.

During his time at Ceia, he was recognized with the '50 Best Discovery' seal from 'The World’s 50 Best Restaurants' academy.
In 2020, he was invited by the Ritz Lisbon to open Cura, and just over a year later, he earned a Michelin star. To the praise from critics and customers, he added other distinctions, such as the two 'knives' at 'The Best Chef Awards', recognizing him as a 'chef on the global rise'.

Now, at Broto, he aims to continue developing his passion for a cuisine based on seasonal products from small local producers.
Married and a father, he is a beloved figure to the Portuguese people thanks to the television contest MasterChef Portugal.
